Better Hair is as Far Away As Your Kitchen

Better hair doesn’t have to come from a bottle, in fact, a better hair day could be just as far away as your kitchen. Mixing up a homemade hair mask is simple with a few ingredients, a bowl, and a wisk.

Eggs are packed with vitamins, protein, and nutrients that your hair craves to be healthier, shinier, and stronger. Regular egg masks can improve the condition of over-processed, brittle, or even thinning hair.

To make this egg mask you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1-2 whole eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk (more if your hair is very long or thick)
  • the juice from half a lemon
  • 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil

I typically recommend starting with clean hair before applying a mask like this, or (even better) use a clarifying shampoo or this baking soda trick prior to applying the egg mask.

Lightly condition your hair to keep tangles under control.

Once your hair is good and clean, towel dries well and use a wide tooth comb to remove all tangles. Then start the mixing process.

Separate these egg yolks from the whites, and beat the yolks well with a wisk. You can toss out the whites (or save them for breakfast). Mix the remaining ingredients into your egg yolks, beating well.

When you have got it all mixed up, implement of the scalp to ends to your hair. I usually tip my head over the sink or bathtub as this part can get pretty messy. Work the mixture well into your scalp, twist your hair up and clip to the top of your head. Next place a shower cap over your head. If you don’t have a shower cap, a plastic shopping bag or saran wrap can work in a pinch. You’re just not going to want eggs and milk dripping all over the pace.

Next, hurry up and wait. Let the mixture sit 15-45 minutes on your hair. I don’t recommend applying heat to this mask. Eggs can cook and that’s really not going to end well.

When the time’s up, rinse well with warm water. You’ll want to follow the rinse with a light shampoo and conditioner to remove all traces of the mixture from your hair. While it works really well, leftover smell and texture won’t result in the beautiful tresses you’re going for.

You can repeat this mask weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly to maintain the results.
