Lip Color That Lasts

If your makeup seems to fade before the day is through, melts away on hot and humid days or transfers to clothing, here are tips to make it longer lasting.

Before you apply your makeup:

  1. Make sure that your face is cleansed and free of surface oil and dirt.
  2. Use makeup for your skin type.
  3. You can choose makeup with long-lasting formulas, but some long-wear foundations can be heavy and work and feel better in cooler months. In warmer weather lighten up on the makeup. The layering of too many products or heavy products can cause you to perspire.
  4. Use a makeup primer before applying foundation.

One long-lasting foundation is Avon ExtraLasting Liquid Foundation.

Use a Makeup Primer

From Christopher Drummond Beauty, SkinPrep is a makeup primer and age-defying skin treatment that contains sea algae and other natural and organic ingredients, and resurfaces, firms and perfects the complexion. Skin Prep is for all skin types but is especially beneficial to acne prone skin because it won’t irritate or clog pores. It’s also dimethicone-free, an ingredient often found in primers that can be irritating to the skin.

Set Your Makeup

Set makeup with a translucent powder to reduce shine and help makeup last longer, especially if you are wearing liquid or cream makeup. Many women of color have oily skin that can get worse in warmer weather. Translucent powder is especially helpful to keep oil at bay and prevent it from ruining your makeup. Apply to the t-zone, chin, and forehead to keep your makeup matte and shine free.

You can use makeup-blotting sheets to absorb oil while on the go or instead of using oil-absorbing sheets take along a setting powder like Dermablend Setting Powder. It’s particularly good for those with oily skin. Just don’t use too much.

Use a Good Setting Powder

Dermablend Setting Powder is smudge-resistant and enhances the wear of Dermablend Cover Crème and Smooth Indulgence foundations for up to 16 hours. In spite of the white color of the Original shade, it is transparent upon application and can be used on all skin tones. There are also Cool Beige (for use with medium to tan skin tones and can also be used as a bronzer for fair, light and medium skin tones) and Warm Saffron (for tan to deep skin tones).

Use a Finishing Spray

If the setting powder is not your thing, try a setting spray. Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray is a makeup setting spray that not only holds makeup in place but also improves makeup quality, keeping foundation out of fine lines, reducing shine and brightening the color. It can be used on foundations, eyeshadows, blushes, bronzers, mineral foundations, concealers and tinted moisturizers. There are finishing sprays for oily skin, mature skin, dry skin and for special occasions. Visit Skindinavia.com.

Tips for Lasting Mascara

Unless you’re using waterproof mascara, avoid applying it to the lower lashes. Tears, perspiration and wiping under the eyes with your fingertips (not advisable, but if you have allergies sometimes the eyes itch, and you might forget!) will smudge and cause raccoon eyes.

Waterproof mascaras do last longer, but many women don’t like them because they are harder to remove, causing the loss of lashes. Use a very good eye makeup remover formulated for waterproof mascara.

Don’t use waterproof mascara too often, because it can dry out the lashes.
