Estée Lauder's Pure Color Envy Liquid Lip Potion

I’m legitimately obsessed with lipstick. Like, I think it’s reaching the point where it would be considered a problem if I actually gave a crap what anyone thought of my eternally growing makeup collection. So, naturally, I follow all of the big lipstick campaigns and launches from just about every major (and, let’s face it, minor) beauty company out there, including Estée Lauder‘s new campaign for their Pure Color Envy Liquid Lip Potion ($30), featuring Kendall Jenner. Let’s just say it was giving me major #lipstickenvy.

So, I reached out to the good people at Estée Lauder, and they were kind enough to send over a sample of their new product. Here’s their new Liquid Lip Potion in the shade 330 Lethal Red:

The packaging is simple and chic, just like everything else about the Estée Lauder brand. Here’s what it claims:

“This innovative liquid lipstick hybrid plumps with continuous moisture. Saturates with high-intensity color, without sticky shine. Lips look pouty, sculpted, sexy.”

As someone who obsessively hoarded Nyx’s soft matte lip creams of yore, but found them to be a bit drying (those are $6, so I guess you get what you pay for sometimes), I was really excited to find a liquid lipstick that touted extra moisture.

But what got me really excited to try out the product was the applicator:

Estée Lauder's Pure Color Envy Liquid Lip Potion Applicator

In case you’re having any trouble seeing, it’s more curved than your standard liquid lip product wand, and it’s pretty glorious. Here’s how it’s described:

“Dual-sided applicator lets you shape and color with precise definition. One side has a rounded tip that follows the curves of your lips. The other, a well that holds extra color to build impact.”

My biggest problem with liquid lipsticks is that the flat applicator always leaves me with the product outside of my lip line and bleeding over the corners of my mouth, so hopefully, this new applicator solves those problems.

Here’s what it looks like upon application:

It was just as easy to apply as any standard gloss, and guys, the applicator really did make all the difference. The curve fit over my lips perfectly, and the tip of the wand was sharp (not as in pokey-sharp, but as in pointed-sharp) enough to get into the tight corners and keeps a tight line around the edge of my mouth. You know what that means: No pesky lip liner to deal with! And, of course, the color payoff is to die for.

I wanted to see how well the product would last throughout the day, because, as anyone who wears lipstick knows, reapplication is one of the lipstick’s necessary evils. Here’s how the product holds up after several hours of wear, a cup of coffee, and after having shoved several fistfuls of wasabi peas into my face like a goddamn lady:

It’s stayed on surprisingly well! Mind you, there’s a lot of product on the edge of my coffee cup right now, and, about an hour after I initially applied the product, I accidentally swiped my hand across my lips and it came away with a big red smear, but I didn’t even need to reapply to readjust the edges. The product stays on without leaving my lips feeling dry, it’s weightless like a balm, and honestly, if I wasn’t writing this review, I probably would have forgotten I was wearing it (trust me, that’s a good thing).

So, the final verdict: I love this product. I’ll admit that $30 is on the pricier side, but it’s totally worth the splurge. I’ve tried on and purchased my fair share of lipsticks, and as much as I like some of them, this is the only one that actually gives my lips that nice, luxurious feel you look for in a lipstick. Plus, they’ve got a whole selection of colors, so you’re guaranteed to find the one you’re looking for. At the very least, it’s worth splurging on one signature color from the collection, if you’re not willing the blow your spending budget on the whole thing.
