It’s no secret that I love red hair. It’s probably my favorite hair color ever, and not a day goes by that I don’t wish I was born with ginger locks à la Emma Stone or Julianne Moore. You might remember the short period at the end of last summer when I tried out red hair for myself, and as much as I loved it, I opted for gloss out of a severe case hair dye commitment issues, and it faded in about two months to my natural shade of strawberry-ish blonde. Now, as if my red hair envy wasn’t bad enough, Ariel Winter up and dyed her own naturally dark locks, and I’m just a little bit obsessed.
She debuted the new look last night on Instagram with these undeniably Kylie Jenner-esque video:
In the caption, Ariel calls herself a strawberry. I don’t know if that’s the right color categorization based on this video alone—it looks much more fiery-red to me. Then again, the lighting and/or filter on the video could be changing the color. It could look much more strawberry-esque in person. Here’s the full look:
I absolutely love it. I always get a little nervous when people go from dark to bright red (plenty of celebs have tried it, and, IMHO, Alyson Hannigan is the only one who was ever really able to do it), but Ariel really pulled it off here. I’m actually pretty excited to see her rock it on the red carpet in its unfiltered glory.
It’s been a big week, hair-wise, for the Modern Family cast. Just days ago, Ariel’s co-star and on-screen sister Sarah Hyland debuted a new dark, almost-black color on Instagram. I guess it just goes to show that any color can work for spring, despite the belief (and common trend) that the warmer weather is a time for warmer, lighter hair colors.
Between her new hair and her recent breast reduction, Winter is clearly living her best life.
