I Actually Tried PajamaJeans, And They Are Not What You'd Expect

Pajama jeans?? What’s next, basketball culottes? Khaki lingerie? Silk leggings? Fleece jodhpurs? Okay yes, I might be getting carried away. PajamaJeans are not actually as earth-shatteringly bonkers as one might expect. Because for starters…can you even tell these jeans are also pajamas? No? Exactly.

My foray into the weird, wonderful world of pajama jeans was fraught with skepticism on my part. I have never once gone out into public in pajamas, and I can probably count the number of times I’ve worn sweatpants out of the house on one hand. I no longer subscribe to the idea that plain black leggings (I say plain, meaning “not leather,” because yes definitely wear those) should be worn as pants. Suffice it to say that comfort is not my #1 priority when getting dressed, and I am probably not PajamaJeans’ target demographic. However.

I was expecting PajamaJeans to be a roughly equal split between what I know as “pajamas” and what I know as “jeans,” but in reality, they tipped much more toward the denim side. PajamaJeans are less “pajama pants that look like denim” than “uber comfortable jeans,” which was for me a very happy surprise.

The pair I took for a test ride was the Skinny Indigo in the Small (6-8) size ($49), which yes were too long on me (I’m 5’4) and had to be rolled twice, but other than that fit very nicely. They also have bootcut PajamaJeans if you’re into that, and both styles in a whole mess of colors and washes. They even come in XXS – 3X, which is pretty fantastic. Warning: They do run small. I’m usually a 4 or 6 in jeans and these puppies are pretty tight. To show you just how well they fit you will now be treated to an awkward photo of my butt.

Yeah, I know it’s weird. But I feel like we just bonded, yes? The point is, they fit super well. Would I sleep in them? Probably not. Will I wear them IRL and bask in the secret comfort and stretch? Absolutely. PajamaJeans are made of a mysterious fabric called Dormisoft® Denim, which is a probably top-secret cotton-spandex blend that allows me to do THIS:

Seriously, these babies can stretch. They also don’t have a zipper (just a fake one), which ups the comfort ante even higher. Overall, I have to say that I’m a fan. This was the first time I wore PajamaJeans out into the wild, but it certainly won’t be the last.
